Frequently Asked Questions

Be honest now, what are the real differences between the products?

All of the parkas are of good quality, so the differences are subtle. The Tri-Zone is the top of the line and has a few features not found on the other jackets. Logo on the left arm, trim around the front and back shoulder yoke, reinforced elbow patches and a full length zippered cape vent across the back (excellent for vigorous activities). The Adult Tempest is a little plainer with less trim, smaller vents, the hood is not removeable, and the hem drawstring has sewn-in ends. The Kid’s Tempest has some piping around the shoulder yoke and waist / hem drawstring controls are inside the pockets. The Forester uses a lower thread count grade of cloth and the lining does not extend all the way down the body of the jacket. All of the jackets are very soft and supple, not the usual stiff raincoat feel.

The differences in the pants are more obvious. The Tri-Zone pant has reinforced knee patches and sewn-in insulation, which can not be removed. “Full zip” means to the belt loop, your foot still must pass through the waistband. The Tempest pant is a true “full zip”, you can put it on with both feet on the ground. [Think about puting on your pants in the parking lot of the ski resort while balancing on one foot above a slush puddle.] The Torrent pant’s boot zipper is longer than many competitors, making it easier to put on.

Why are colors limited in larger sizes?

The manufacturer creates batches in one color at a time on an infrequent basis. Because volume is low, supplies will vary. We will check to see what colors are in stock and notify you in the event that we are not able to secure your first choice.
